No, consulting is
advice giving in nature. Coaching is more multi-dimensional.
Coaching can advise if it is in the expertise of the coach, but
primarily a coach helps provide you, the client, with tools
and techniques to obtain your goals and guidance to help you solve
your own challenges. I firmly believe that the client holds their
own answers. It is the coach’s job to help you uncover and act on
that knowledge. However, I will give any intuitive impressions or
inklings I feel during our work together, with the client’s
permission.
Coaching is also
not therapy. Some of my clients are receiving counseling by
licensed therapists and are also working with me, as their coach,
to move forward in all areas of their life. In coaching, I share
with my clients what they need from me, i.e. structure,
validation, advice, strategy, feedback, awareness, options, tools
and techniques, etc.
How long does the coaching relationship last?
Many coaches ask for a three to six month contract. I do not
require you |
